The Texas State Office of Distance and Extended Learning is proud to offer correspondence self-paced courses to students at a reasonable and competitive cost. Here you will find a detailed listing of all course tuition and fees and other details about the costs associated with correspondence study.

Course Tuition and Fees

Effective September 1, 2016, course fees for all correspondence self-paced study courses are $258.33 per semester credit hour for undergraduate courses and $308.33 per semester credit hour for graduate courses.

Students enrolled in online correspondence courses will pay an additional electronic course fee of $10 per credit hour.

  • Three credit hour print-based course—$774.99 undergraduate
  • Three credit hour online course—$804.99 undergraduate / $954.99 graduate
  • Four credit hour online course—$1,073.32 undergraduate

Fees for Exams and Proctoring Services

  • Exams on the Texas State campus in San Marcos or Round Rock: Students who are taking exams for a Texas State correspondence self-paced study course at the Testing, Research-Support, and Evaluation Center in San Marcos or at the Round Rock Testing Center pay no exam administration fee.
  • Exams at another location: Students who choose to take exams at an external testing center or proctoring site are responsible for paying any protor fees required at the chosen location. Thus, students are encouraged to use the testing locations in San Marcos and Round Rock.

Note that refunds are processed according to the university’s refund policies.

University Fees and Charges

Returned Checks: If a check is returned for reasons other than an admitted bank error, you must repay within 10 days with a cashiers check, money order, or credit card. A $30 service fee will be assessed and must be included with your payment. You may pay either in person at the cashier’s windows on the first floor of the J.C. Kellam Building, or by mailing the payment to the following address:

You must then present the paid receipt at the Office of Distance and Extended Learning to get your record cleared.

Cost of Course Materials

When determining the total cost of a correspondence self-paced course, it is important to consider not only the enrollment and course fees, but also the cost of course materials and textbooks. Course materials and textbooks are not included in the course tuition and fees. To determine what the course materials for a particular course will cost, refer to the specific course listing page for required materials and supplies, accessible under Course Offerings.


Students are responsible for paying the postage on assignments sent to the Office of Distance and Extended Learning.
